Well, we came super close to purchasing a place this week. It was pretty much what we wanted but with buildings and a truck. We met the owner by accident while we were looking for a different property and he offered to sell his place to us for an amazing price. We all shook hands and everything was fine and dandy and I was super excited for the WHOLE WEEKEND! I even made the Bear take me to look at puppies.
The seller backed out this morning. Apparently he feels “really bad” though and would like to treat us to $100 worth of dinner… If I trusted him to pick up the cheque we would absolutely be at $1.00 sushi tomorrow night. I’m not gonna lie here, we’re pretty annoyed.
We went on another adventure out towards the seller’s place. Turns out the property right beside him is for sale as well, so we thought we would go have a browse. Unfortunately, we need exact boundaries, because if we buy thinking a good building site is in when it isn’t, we’re kind of screwed. So we’ll go back out with the agents sometime this week…
On the way to the property I saw these guys!
And if you don’t understand my excitement over giant metal chickens made out of oil drums, you obviously don’t spend enough time killing time on the internet. Jenny Lawson is great. If only the Bear knew what he was in for.
On our way out of the property The bear noticed a stick moving rapidly across the muddy gravel road. In a slithering sort of motion. Kind of like a snake.
Of course we stopped the truck to have a look at it. Of course the first thought through my head was “timber rattler?” followed immediately by “d’aww look at the little guy!!!!”
What the Bear actually narrowly avoided smashing to bits on the cold gravel road was this little guy!

That’s my hand (I still exist!) and that little fellow, trying really hard to convince us that his head is his tail and his tail is his head, is our very own North American BOA CONSTRICTOR! Yup. We have one. They’re called Rubber Boas (we also have rosy Boas, but they’re just a subspecies…) and they’re adorable. Look how wrinkly its skin is!
We left him on a warm rock on the side of the road. It’s been a long time since I picked up a wild snake. It was a nice little flash of my childhood.
The Bear wants me to put in some time looking at properties and I’m having a hard time deciding if I’m really discouraged or really determined, so I’m going to go poke the internet for a bit.
Night all.
We used to get rubber boas all the time in Kelowna
They are on the endangered list due to interruptions in their migrating routes…
They are sooo cute 🙂

I remember we had this conversation a couple years back 😀 It was super neat to not only see one in the real world, but to be able to pick him up and move him too!
